These professional drivers have undergone a two-month training provided by the academy of the Association Securoute in Douala.
The Securoute Academy, training pool of the association Securoute, organized this Thursday, December 8, 2022 in Douala, a ceremony for the end of recycling and development of 107 professional drivers. Drivers employed in the intercity transport agency Finexs Voyages. The ceremony took place at the company’s headquarters in Mboppi. The two-month training provided by Securoute is part of the road safety activities of the association at the end of the year, and comes in response to the directives of the Ministry of Transport.
First, the directives dated August 20, 2021, the day after the road tragedy of Santchou. Then those of November 17, 2022 relating to the prevention of accident risks during the holiday season. The end of training ceremony was therefore an opportunity, according to the Executive Director of Securoute, Martial Missimikim, to officially launch the awareness campaign in conjunction with the program of the Ministry of Transport.
It was also an opportunity for recycled drivers to review what they have learned. This is the case of Ousseni Chetkou, who insisted on the five keys of defensive driving, related to the vigilance of the driver. Following him, Freddy Zibi listed the commitments made by the participants in the training: never drink and drive; always wear a seatbelt; never speed; avoid overloading, both passengers and goods; avoid bad overtaking; do not answer calls while driving. Beatrice Etoundi, CEO of Finexs, meanwhile, explained that << the driver is the centerpiece of a transport agency. We have to make sure our drivers have the necessary skills in order to maintain the company’s performance. And retraining is one way to achieve that goal.”
Speaking of retraining, Martial Missimikim reminds us that companies must retrain their professional drivers every two years, according to standards. Securoute hopes to encourage all road safety targets to adhere to these standards through its academy. A necessary step in a context where the figures of the Ministry of Transport allow to evaluate at more than 70% the human factor in public traffic accidents, according to Mr. Missimikim.
