SECUROUTE audience to the Cameroon Road National Council

On Wednesday, 05th of May 2021 SECUROUTE had an audience with the permanent secretary of the Cameroon Road National Council here in Yaounde central town around 3pm. The audience lasted for more than an hour within which was a great discussion between the permanent secretary of the said institution on one hand and SECUROUTE represented by its president Martial Misimikim and three other members.

The discussion was centered primarily on Road Safety in Cameroon and it’s challenges and how to overcome these challenges for a safer Road with limited death. Here, Martial Misimikim president of SECUROUTE ASSOCIATION, Expert in Road safety was given the flow during which he highlighted various important points without which the Management of Road Safety will not be efficient.

He talked about the issue of coordination whereby every stakeholder such as the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry Of Public Health, the National Gendarmery and the Police where supposed to work hand in hand to make the job more easier, smooth and transparent. He also talked about a dada base which will help record every information concerning road safety for examination by experts.

The question of sensitization was not also left out. Sensitization is done by the government and the civil society and even international organizations thus, there should be a coordination of all the efforts done on the field.

Lastly he made mention of the question of finance of Road Safety. Who is to finance the work which has to be done to safe lives on our roads but mostly which organ or institution should manage the finance ? The problem of lead agency in Cameroon have to be solved.

Secondly, Mr Martial talked about the UN Global Road Safety Week scheduled from the 17th to the 23rd of May 2021 under the campaign #Love30.

#Love30 is a world campaign to urge drivers on speed limitations that is 30km/h in urban areas or agglomeration.

It has been proven that while driving at 30km/h, in case of an accident, the impact will not be a serious one. The idea here is invite the Cameroon Road National Council and other Stakeholders to participate in activities of the UNGRSW.

The permanent secretary ended the audience by encouraging SECUROUTE and asked the president to write to the Prime Minister Head of Government.
