Major road safety stakeholders gather in Stockholm to set the scene for UN Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety.
Stockholm, SWEDEN : Among road safety stakeholders, SECUROUTE attends the UN Global Ministérial Conference on Road Safety
More than 1.35 million people die in road crashes every year. Up to 50 million suffer serious, often life-changing injuries. Crashes are now the number 1 cause of death for young people aged 5 to 29. If nothing changes, a staggering 500 million people will be killed or seriously injured in road crashes over the next decade, estimate experts.
Drastically reducing the number of road deaths and serious injuries requires innovative approaches on all fronts.

The 3rd UN Ministerial Conference on Road Safety. Ministers of transport, health and other portfolios – 1700 delegates from 140 countries – will meet in Sweden’s capital on 19/20 February to set out an ambitious roadmap for reducing the number of deaths and serious injuries caused by road crashes.

With the challenges of this conference, one of the acts among so many others that Cameroon should take, is the functioning of a road accident database, because without real datas, the following actions are often less efficient. The road safety database will give us a reliable datas on road accidents throughout Cameroon because it will involve several actors, including the Police and the Gendarmerie. Several actions were carried out by Cameroon in the decade of actions 2011-2020. It is now in 2020 for Cameroon to continue the good actions undertaken to save the most life in Cameroon with the new UN targets by 2030. And the whole of Africa will come out on top.
On the other hand, the creation of a national road safety agency is of great interest in bringing leadership in road safety beyond the borders of Cameroon.
